About

The practicebehind the work.

How we think, how we work, and where we can help.

Design is personal. So is the way we work.

Earthborne By Design is an interior design practice led by interior designer Paul Coulson, working across the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Northern New South Wales.

For almost twelve years, we've helped clients rethink, renovate, build, furnish and finish their homes.

While this is where most of our projects are based, location doesn't necessarily define where we can work. For the right project, we welcome conversations with clients further afield.

Meet Paul

Good design startswith listening.

Before we draw anything, we want to understand how you live, what isn't working, what matters to you and what you're hoping could be different.

Sometimes our role is to create. Sometimes it's to challenge an idea. Sometimes it's simply to guide you through decisions that have become overwhelming. And often, it's helping you see an opportunity in your home you hadn't considered.

We don't believe your home should become an expression of our personal style. Our role is to understand what resonates with you, help define and refine that direction, and bring the many decisions involved in creating a home together.

The result should feel like your home, considered more deeply.

Collaboration

Design doesn’t happenin isolation.

We don't expect to have every answer. Projects benefit from the experience and expertise of everyone involved.

The best outcomes come from good people working well together.

What we do

How wecan help.

From a single room to a whole home, our involvement is shaped by what the project actually needs. Every service below can stand alone or work together as one considered package.

Design

For homeowners renovating, extending or rethinking the way their home works.

From a single room to a whole home, we consider spatial planning, kitchens, bathrooms, laundries, joinery, lighting, materials and finishes, developing the drawings, selections and documentation relevant to the project.

02

New BuildInteriors

For clients building a new home who want the interior considered as carefully as the architecture.

We work alongside your architect, building designer or builder to bring planning, cabinetry, materials, finishes, lighting, furniture and furnishings together from the beginning.

03

Decorate

For homes that work well but need the interior brought together.

Furniture, furnishings, window treatments, decorative lighting, rugs, art, colour and materials are considered as a whole — combining what you already own with what the home still needs.

04

Style

For the finishing touches that make a space feel complete.

Artwork, objects, soft furnishings and placement can bring together a finished room without changing the room itself.

Selected SmallCommercial Interiors

Residential interiors remain at the heart of the practice.

We also consider selected smaller commercial interiors where the project, people and scope are a good fit.

From design to delivery

ProjectFacilitation.

Good design doesn't end when the drawings are finished and the selections are locked in.

For construction-based projects, Project Facilitation forms part of how we support the design as it moves into implementation. The level of involvement is tailored to the project and may include design clarification, builder and trade liaison, supplier coordination, site reviews, procurement and installation support.

Our role is continuity of design intent, working alongside the builder, trades, suppliers and other responsible project parties.

Experience + recognition

Quietly credentialled.

Recognition matters. We're proud of it. But the measure that matters most is creating a home that works beautifully for the people who live there.
